ALICE JACQUESA

I began taking photos in my early twenties as a way of traveling the world. My first favorite playgrounds were the ocean and concrete curves capturing surfers and skaters in their motion. I found beauty in communicating an energy, a movement through a still frame.

When my grandpa Jacques handed me his 1976 35mm Canon AE1 film camera, I discovered a completely different way of working - one that required patience and intention. Every frame has to be deliberate, raw and seized with momentum.

I’ve always been fond of sports and naturally photographed every event I was attending for pleasure, until, Wimbledon happened. This captivating place hit me in a different way. Witnessing the rhythm on the green tennis court, the muffled thud of the ball touching the grass, the grace and fleeting moments of triumph, the quiet stillness between points, taking pictures of this sport quickly became a true exhilarating pursuit.

I now travel to as many tournaments as possible to capture film photography using different vintage cameras.
